How were political structures of the Late Bronze Age continued or transformed across the transition to the Iron Age?

Subproject “Pictures of Change. The Development of Iconographic Resources at the Transition from the Bronze to the Iron Age in the Eastern Mediterranean” focuses on the socio-political aspects of this transition. For this purpose, it investigates the development and classification of iconographic resources (media, motifs, and styles) that were tightly connected with the structures of centralized states.

Two interconnected case-studies will explore, respectively, changes in the use of cylinder seals and developments in the area of monumental sculpture over the course of this transitional period.
