To what extent are the sharing and ownership of resources responsible for the different development of regions, and possibly also for the development of social inequality?

To answer this question, the project ‚Resources and the Formation of Inequality. Commodities and Communication Systems in Prehistoric Southeastern Europe’ compares two regions with very diverse resource occurrences: the Eastern Balkans and the Banat region in the Western Balkans. While the eastern Balkans contain many metals, flint, salt and copper ore, the Banat region has few such resources, but very fertile soils.
